As a fashion designer one of the major responsibilities that I have when it comes to creating innovation and leading trends in fashion for the company I work for is coming up with fresh and edgy looks and materials. I’m a bag designer so for my job having to come up with new combination of materials and bag looks can be difficult because there are virtually hundreds of competition that may have thought of the exact look that you just sketched. Two years ago! The biggest challenge I ever faced happened last year when I reached a creative block a month before fashion week.

I couldn’t come up with the right combination of fabrics to use for my designs so I looked to my old scrapbook of memories for inspiration. I hit pay dirt when I decided to create a rustic theme for the bags so I went on the phone and told my secretary to find the best cowhides San Antonio Texas had to offer. When I got the leather that I needed I treated it in a special solution to dye it a very chic shade and used it for my bag design. The crowd absolutely loved it and critics hailed it as a breath of fresh air. My only challenge now is how I can top that this coming fashion week!
