Hunt for Steve Fossett Men's Journal January E-mail
Wednesday, 05 December 2007
Check out my feature on the hunt for missing millionaire aviator Steve Fossett, out in a few days--early to mid-December-in the January issue of Men's Journal.  It's a mystery that rivals Amelia Earhart's disappearance.  I traveled to Nevada just after the official search was called off on October 3rd.  I flew back and forth over the wild rugged country and uncovered a bunch of clues and information that has never been reported.  Check it out.

Someone has found out his reason to go on this flight wasn't what everyone thought.

My wife and I work at Bodie State Park as volunteers and were there the day Fossett dissapeared. We both saw a high winged aircraft fly over just as we were getting ready to go into town to work. This was around 10 oclock. The plane was flying from the direction of the Flying W. I estimated its altitude to be about 2000 to 2500 ft agl. My wife and I have met Fosset at Bodie a couple of years back. I have been to the Flying W for a couple of events and I am a pilot.

Ed, were you ever interviewed re this sighting? Do you recall the colors of the plane, or was it too high?

We were never interviewed. We returned home a coupe of days after the sighting and that was the first time we knew of it. Bodie has little communication with the rest of the world which is one of the reasons we like it. I did not volunteer my information for several reasons. When we met Fosset He insulted us by his conduct. We were introduced to him by another pilot. He shook hands with us and abruptly turned and walked away. It was quite embarrassing for my wife and I and the person who introduced us. I assumed with all the resources used he would be found quickly and I don't like being interrogated.
As for the color, I just saw it as white but my wife saw color and she was correct.

Hello again Ed--what direction was the plane headed? When you say your wife saw the correct color, what did she see? Thanks, LT
